This is a update to prior comment. Except for planned waste areas the course green everywhere, no bald spots, no weeds, as good as any you will find in the area. I played it for the first time in a year and didn't have a bad lie the whole round. Greens are as good as I remember. Many of the tees have been leveled and are green. The quality of the turf grass would do justice to any country club.

IN JUNE 2011, OWNERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT CHANGED FOR THE BETTER. PEOPLE IN CHARGE NOW ARE EXPERIENCED GOLF PROFESSIONALS. THE COURSE CONDITIONS ARE ALREADY IMPROVING.

Our group of snow-refugees played here 2-10-11, in cool (45 degrees) conditions. Course is in serious need of updating and maintenance. Cart paths are deteriorated, clubhouse is run down, and pro shop is basically empty of any merchandise newer than several years old. Greens are in poor shape, with many rough spots, and crab grass grown (and mowed) in. Bunkers were OK, but clearly hadn't been touched in some time. Fairways were also OK, and had been overseeded, so they were green in a sea of brown Bermuda. Having said all of that, the layout/design is excellent, and deserving of better care. Sadly, the course is located about 20 miles from mainstream Pinehurst/Southern Pines, so it's a bit off the beaten track. I've never before heard of the architect, Gardner Gidley, but he did a good job here. Course has a fair amount of elevation change, and meanders through the housing areas, so it's not walker-friendly, especially for us older folks. We really liked the course, but hope that conditions improve.

Loved the course. Chris McDonald and his staff were top-notch. This is a course worth playing time and time again.

The greens were the best part of the Deercroft course. They were in great shape. Be sure to use the practice putting green before you go out to the course to get used to the speed. Tip, be short of the hole on #12!

Great place to play a good game of golf. A forty dollar special included cart, golf all day and lunch. The owner explained everything on the course and has made good changes since my last visit in 2012. I would play there anytime
